APO-FPO Addresses: What You Should Know

  • The only state codes that can be used for APO/FPO addresses are AE, AP, and AA.
  •  You will not be able to receive your package if it cannot be delivered by the USPS.
  • The best option to send is via Priority Mail. If you send a package to your APO/FPO address by surface mail, it will take a long time to arrive. This is due to the fact that Priority Mail is delivered by air whereas surface mail is not. Using surface class implies your shipment is physically on the sluggish boat. 
  • If you’re relocating overseas and have a military (APO/FPO) address, you’ll need to complete the same Change of Address (COA) form as if you’re moving domestically (PS Form 3575). This procedure for changing your address must be conducted at your local post office (i.e. the U.S. office). The COA cannot be submitted online if you are relocating to or from an international or military residence.
